STORY

The idea of Qvevrebi was simple — We wanted to transform a symbol of Georgia’s rich wine culture into an unforgettable experience for our guests.

About Us

With roots in the Kakheti region and childhoods spent among the lush vineyards, our family long held a dream of sharing these one-of-a-kind experiences with guests from all over the world. While the idea had been there for a long time, it was only in 2018, when we first stumbled upon the breathtaking hill in the heart of Shalauri village (and believe us, photos don’t do the views justice), that we finally had the chance to make that dream into reality.

Pulling together everything we had as a family, we were able to acquire the land of our dreams and begin transforming it into a place that many more could enjoy during their stays in Kakheti.

Building the Dream

2019

It took great talent to go from an idea to a design concept that would actually work. We have our deepest appreciation for the most valuable work of our architect Merab Gujabidze. A lot of creativity and an innovative approach were required to build the unique structures that have become the signature of our hotel — imitations of Qvevri, amphora-like vessels used for grape fermentation and winemaking.

With support from Bank of Georgia and Enterprise Georgia, our family was able to raise enough investment funds and kickstart the construction at the end of 2019. The global pandemic unfortunately brought a myriad of challenges: putting the project on hold for over a year, rising prices on building materials and hotel inventory, resuming construction following all safety protocols, and more.

Nevertheless, we persevered.

2023

Our entire family poured heart and soul into bringing the project to life. After five long years, we finally opened our doors to guests on September 5th, 2023.

Hotel Qvevrebi was built to meet the highest standards set by The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and we take pride in offering all of the above to our guests.

As the owners, we were lucky enough to find the most talented and dedicated team to help us run the hotel and the restaurant. Every visitor is welcomed with the warmest smile and provided with the best guest experience possible. We appreciate the contribution of our team in guest satisfaction which got us Booking.com Traveller Review Award 2024 with an outstanding score 9.7 out of 10.

What we offer

Visitors will find the reception area of Hotel Qvevrebi in the main building, which also features 17 rooms, with the entire building and one of the rooms fully wheelchair accessible. 20 Qvevri-shaped rooms (cottages) are scattered across the property in the shape of a reverse map of Georgia. All Qvevri rooms are uniquely named after different grape varieties. The main building also contains Restaurant Amphora, which offers European and Georgian dishes, as well as a bar area with pool table, foosball table, tennis table and board games. From the bar area, guests exit into an open pool area with a poolside bar and a hot tub, loungers, umbrellas, and pool towels. In late 2024 we also added a new space dedicated to cooking masterclasses, wine tasting, and grape crushing in “Satsnakheli” (The Satsnakheli is a vessel used for pressing grapes and wine-making and has been part of the traditional Georgian wine-making process for millennia). Currently, the conference hall and spa are under construction and will be available to guests in the first quarter of 2025.
